Back in early Bitcoin, the network's hashpower crossed a number so big people started calling it "one exaflop". Someone opened MS Paint, drew a terrible red cat directly on a Bitcoin network stats page, and called it Exaflopcat.
That's it. That's the whole origin. Big number, bad analogy, internet joke, cat, history.
Honest note: "First Cat on the Blockchain" is our slogan and lore, not a claim that this was literally the first cat picture ever linked to Bitcoin. The proof we show is the old network-stat screenshot, the doodle drawn on it, the Reddit thread that documented it, and the exaflop joke itself.
